Getting to the Kingdom of Tonga

There are several international flight options. Each land in Tongatapu, the main island of the Kingdom of Tonga, and the location of its capital Nukuʻalofa.

Air New Zealand flies from Auckland six times per week. Air New Zealand also have daily flights from London to Auckland via Los Angeles or Hong Kong.

Virgin Australia flies from New Zealand and Australia.

Getting to Ha’apai and Lifuka Island

Haʻapai is a group of 51 islands, north of Tongatapu. Lifuka Island, where our resort is located, is one of the main islands of the group. You can get here by plane or boat.

Important things to note

  • The M60 aircraft does not fly to Ha'apai.

  • We advise our guests to spend a night in Tongatapu before your international departure flight.

  • We advise our guests to take a taxi from the International to Domestic Terminal in Tongatapu.

  • Sunday is strictly a day of rest with no flights or charters available.

By plane

Real Tonga Airline flies from Tongatapu to Ha'apai Monday to Saturday.

By boat

Friendly Island Shipping sails the MV Otuanga'ofa from Tongatapu to Ha'apai. The trip takes 12 hours and costs between $75 to 120 one way.

Getting to Ha’apai Beach Resort

Ha’apai Beach Resort is located halfway between Pangai, the main town on Lifuka Island, and the airport.

We will arrange your transfer. Email us with your arrival information and we can arrange transfers from the airport or wharf to the resort. Transfers are $10 per person. We will also provide your transfer on departure.

We are located at the former Niua Kalo Beach Motel on Lifuka Island, conveniently half-way between Pangai and the airport. It just takes 5 minutes by bicycle, 20 minutes on foot or 2 minutes by car to get here from town.
